The Smith Stearns Tennis Academy is a rare combination of a former
number one ranked player in the world and former USTA Director of Coaching,
Stan Smith, and one of the top coaches in the world, Billy Stearns.
Our Academy is uniquely designed for individual junior player development
at one of the top rated resorts in the country, Sea Pines Resort, on Hilton
Head Island, South Carolina.
The Smith Stearns Tennis Academy was founded in 2002 with
a goal of creating an environment conducive to helping dedicated young players
reach their ultimate potential both on and off the court. Stan and Billy
are highly motivated individuals who, through direct involvement and example,
stimulate players to give their very best at all times. They accomplish
this while promoting an atmosphere of intense training combined with camaraderie
and fun.
Our facility, The Sea Pines Resort, was rated the #5 tennis
resort in the U.S. in 2004 by TENNIS Magazine. It boasts 23 beautifully
maintained clay courts, 4 hard courts, a full service pro shop, a stadium
court, and is within walking distance from Harbour Town. We offer weekend,
weekly, monthly, or year-round instruction programs; private lessons; group
and private tournament coaching; supervised housing; and an emphasis on college
placement. The Academy limits enrollment to 40 juniors per session,
thus enabling the individual attention necessary for success.
The Academy has been structured to ensure a high level of
technical development. Both Stan and Billy believe that good, sound mechanics
are the keys to competitive excellence and longevity. By utilizing
both soft and hard court training, we ensure the development of good footwork,
sound tactics and a disciplined approach to playing extended points.
Extensive technical instruction, coupled with demanding on
and off court fitness training and conditioning, will prepare athletes for
the highest level of competition. Success comes through discipline,
training, focused instruction and fun. Smith Stearns Tennis Academy
can prepare players for collegiate and professional tennis.
