Mauna Kea Resort was the vision and dream of respected hotelier Laurance
S. Rockefeller more than 30 years ago. In what proved to be one of the most
visionary decisions in the history of modern tourism, he chose a patch of
black lava in an inaccessible area with two beautiful beaches to create a
work of art that gave the Big Island of Hawaii a resort destination of legendary
proportions.
Rockefeller envisioned a resort of world-class standards
-- complete with hotels, golf courses and homes. The first step in making
Rockefeller's dream a reality was Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.
Rockefeller completed his dream with the addition of Hapuna
Beach Prince Hotel, which opened in 1994 within walking distance from Mauna
Kea Beach Hotel. Sharing 1,839 acres of oceanfront paradise with the legendary
Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel is nestled into the bluffs
above the white sands of Hapuna Beach -- rated one of the best beaches in
America by Conde Nast Traveler.
Tennis
The Seaside Tennis Club at Mauna Kea Resort is one of the
best tennis facilities in Hawaii. Eleven Plexipave courts are arrayed along
the shoreline, with two more nearby the Hotel's beachfront wing. A shaded
lanai, men's and women's locker rooms, video service, ball machine, tournament
planning, racquet-stringing and individual game-matching are just a few of
the services provided.
Our Pro Shop is fully stocked with quality tennis apparel,
equipment and accessories and the friendly staff are standing by to assist.
Private and group lessons are offered by Tennis Professionals
Kerry Crowell and Dan Klug, and Director of Tennis Craig Pautler. Craig returned
to Mauna Kea in late 2003 where he worked from 1977-82 after managing a variety
of tennis resorts throughout the U.S., including three of the "Top 50
Tennis Resorts" of Tennis Magazine. He is also on the Advisory Board
for Prince tennis products, which means the latest, greatest in new equipment
will be available for guests to try out even before it's on the market!
