Hopman Tennis Program

 

 Saddlebrook Resort’s Tampa tennis complex features 45 courts in six surfaces, including all Grand Slam surfaces. Players can also enjoy night play on the five lighted courts. The world-renowned Harry Hopman Tennis Program provides instruction for players of all levels from beginners to touring professionals.

Whether you're an adult or junior, beginner or a touring pro, your game will improve at The Saddlebrook Tennis Center. You'll benefit from 5 hours of concentrated tennis instruction each day, grouped with players who match your ability.

Our teaching staff comes from all over the world. Many are formerly-ranked ATP players. Each one of them is qualified to help you master Harry Hopman's unrivaled methods of winning tennis.

 Inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1978, Henry Christian Hopman made his name as the most successful of all Davis Cup captains, leading Australia to 16 Cups between l939 and 1967. Emphasizing super fitness, he drove and inspired some of the greatest Aussie players including Frank Sedgman, Lew Hoad, Ken Rosewall, Ashley Cooper, Mervyn Rose, Rex Hartwig, Mal Anderson, Neale Fraser, Roy Emerson Rod Laver, John Newcombe, Fred Stolle, and Tony Roche.  

A   He emigrated to the U.S. in 1969 and become a A highly successful teaching pro, counseling such champions-to-be as Vitas Gerulaitis and John McEnroe at the Port Washington (NY) Tennis Academy.

A fine player, particularly in doubles, he won the Australian mens doubles with Jack Crawford in 1929 and 1930 and four mixed doubles titles. He opened his first Hopman Tennis Academy with his wife, Lucy, in Largo, FL. Hopman was born August l2, l906, in Sydney and died December 27, 1985 in Largo, FL.

We'll teach you a series of imaginative drills designed by Mr. Hopman. You'll get stronger, play longer and learn how to react instinctively to the ball. You'll be encouraged and stretched to meet your full potential. Using your own natural style, we'll show you how to achieve your very best. Everything we do develops you on the court. There is no classroom work at Hopman. Our goal is to help you develop stamina, speed, agility and endurance when you play.

Even mental training is done on court. The intensity and repetition of our workouts are precise. You'll learn how to hit the ball with more accuracy and power. Warm-ups are designed to help you drill better. We get you flexible so your body is tuned and ready to react.

After hours of pushing yourself, your body needs rest and recovery. We break for fruit and juice to reenergize you and get you ready for more fun. The Hopman Tennis Program is renowned for giving students lots of individual observation and guidance. You'll acquire skills quickly and correctly.
