Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa

The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa

Asheville, North Carolina

The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa is one of the South's most venerable and famous grand resorts. Built in 1913 from granite stones mined from Sunset Mountain, the resort overlooks the Asheville, North Carolina skyline and provides guests with majestic views of the legendary Blue Ridge Mountains. For decades, the Inn has been a favorite year-round destination for both leisure and business guests as the resort continues to lure future generations to its magical mountainside splendor. Its splendid views, old world charm, peerless amenities, and a long tradition of exceptional service and Southern hospitality make it a place to savor as one of the most enduringly original and exciting resorts in America. BUILDINGS: Guest rooms are located in the historic Main Inn and in two contemporary wings named the Sammons Wing and the Vanderbilt Wing. Historic Main Inn Guestrooms are newly refurbished in 2001 and contain the original solid oak Arts & Crafts-era furnishings with hand-hammered copper Roycroft drawer pulls. Additional features include CD stereo players, refigerators, microwaves, coffee makers, iron and ironing boards, in-room safe, in-room pay movies, cable television, voice mail, data ports and windows that open for fresh mountain air. Contemporary Wings Guestrooms are more spacious than those in our historic Main Inn and are furnished with Arts & Crafts reproduction furnishings. Features include coffee makers, iron and ironing boards, in-room safe, in-room pay movies, cable television, voice mail, data ports and windows that open for fresh mountain air.

Recreation abounds, including 6 indoor and outdoor tennis courts, an 18-hole golf course, a sports center with indoor swimming pool, racquetball court, and fitness equipment, and a new $40 million spa, which opened early in 2001.

For tennis players the lure is both the setting and those indoor courts (three of them). Stewart Atkins, who started there as assistant pro in 1992, is now the tennis director. Out of his long experience there he has carpentered together a multi-pronged program intended to have something for everyone.
