Guests arrive by private passenger ferry, bedding down in
either an inn or cottage and getting around by golf cart, bicycle, horseback,
or on foot. Originally developed as a private club, this secluded resort
has remarkably diverse amenities including a beach and beach club, three
swimming pools, two golf courses, 8 clay courts at a Stan Smith-designed
facility at the Melrose Clubhouse and two more at the oceanview Bloody Point,
a small fitness center, a spa, an equestrian center, children's programs,
and four restaurants and lounges.
The tennis has been under the direction of Ron Gwyn since
1994. Before that, he had been the Operations manager at Port Royal Racquet
Club and the Head Professional at the Shipyard Racquet Club, both on Hilton
Head Island, SC. He is a national tester for the USPTA, the USPTR and the
USRSA.
