This Club Med on a 20-mile stretch of beach at the eastern
end tip of the Dominican Republic is now the latest of the collection to
offer the ATP Tour tennis program on its 10 hard courts (the program begins
March 10, 2002). The program was introduced after the Club underwent $35
million in improvements, which doubled its size to 74 acres and upgraded
the 543 rooms. Long known for its circus workshop, this particular Club also
appeals to families with its Petit, Mini, and Junior Club Meds for children
ages 2-13.
Tennis Features
Tennis Programs. As at Paradise Island and Sandpiper, Punta
Cana offers the three-day ATP Tour program as an optional extra. It runs
for three hours (with sections for beginner/intermediate and advanced players)
and covers the basic strokes, tactics, elements of the modern game, a throws
in a few trick shots for fun. If you opt not to sign on for this option,
then you can still get free group instruction (there are one-hour sessions
for beginners, intermediates, and advanced) though the student:pro ratio
there is likely to be higher than the 6:1 maximum maintained in the ATP Tour
program. Either way, there are also a variety of tennis socials and tournaments
in the afternoon.
