The Ranch is a 1,700-acre refuge six miles up the valley
from the storybook town Carmel. Its 144 suites, all with fireplaces and outside
decks, trail along the live oak-clad hillside made all the more appealing
by bed after bed of petunias, zinnias, roses, poppies, iris, and snapdragons.
This elevated perch overlooks the valley nine of a Pete Dye golf course.
The tennis complex on the other hand, snared an 1890 farmhouse as a courtside
cafe and fitness center, and it has a swimming pool and hot tub to go with
its 11 hard and clay courts, bordered like the hotel by a Monetscape of flowers.
Tennis Staff. Bruce Haase, a very experienced Peter Burwash
International pro, runs the operation here. He played provincial tournaments
in Canada and then began his teaching career at the Inn at Manitou. That
led to his joining PBI in 1976—Peter Burwash himself trained the Inn's
pros during that era—which set in motion a career that has taken him
all over the world, partly through traveling with the PBI Tennis Show, a
Harlem Globetrotters'-like exhibition of ball control and humorous skits,
and partly through postings in Hawaii, Texas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto
Rico, and Singapore before landing at the Carmel Valley Ranch in November
of 1999. Along the way he has done extensive work with teaching tennis to
the handicapped, including those in wheelchairs and those who are blind or
deaf. He's also a certified umpire and referee.

Rates.
The following rates are for a tennis package that includes
unlimited court time and is available Sunday-Thursday. In lieu of gratuities,
the ranch adds a $15/night service charge to cover all resort personnel.
Children under 16 may occupy the suite with their parents at to additional
charge.
