Nestled in the foothills of New Mexico's Sangre de Cristos is Santa
Fe's charming ranch resort, The Bishop's Lodge. Once the private retreat
of a frontier cleric (the subject of Willa Cather's novel, Death Comes for
the Archbishop), the Lodge is centered around Bishop Lamy's original gardens,
hillside home and chapel. The resort was founded by the Jim Thorpe family
in 1918, and has been welcoming guests with its "hand-crafted hospitality"
for over 80 years. Today, this intimate ranch covers nearly 1,000 acres of
landscaped facilities and natural pinon-juniper forests, providing a peaceful
"get away from it all" experience that is still just five minutes
from the bustling heart of Old Santa Fe.
Guest accommodations range from cozy standard doubles to
large deluxe rooms and suites with kiva fireplaces and private patios. Plush
bathrobes, daily newspapers and nightly turndown service are among the many
services provided. A thousand acres of seasonal amenities includes riding
stables, tennis courts, skeet range, nature trails and the prettiest pool
in New Mexico. Summer offerings include a special program for guests aged
four to twelve, and weekly trail ride breakfasts.
