The Fairmont Banff Springs (formerly known as the Banff Springs Hotel)
is one of Western Canada's most famous and enduring landmarks. Built in 1888,
the "Castle in the Rockies" offers championship golf, unparalleled
skiing, classic cuisine and a European-style spa. The hotel's elevation --
some 4,752 feet above sea level -- also ensures stunning views of the area's
spectacular wilderness. It holds 770 rooms and suites and gives guests access
to a wealth of recreation, including canoeing on the park's rivers and lakes,
horseback riding, mountaineering and guided nature walks, white water rafting,
golf at its own academy, and tennis (including private lessons) on the hotel's
5 Supreme courts.
Guests at the Banff Springs never have to do without. The
hotel has 770 rooms, a conference centre, tennis courts, golf course, bowling
centre, 40 shops and boutiques, a grocery store, and 12 food and beverage
outlets.
During the warm summer months, you can take a ride down the
rapids of the Bow River or go horseback riding through Banff National Park's
great forests. You can also relax by choosing from a variety of interpretive
coach tours, which offer incredible scenery as well as an opportunity to
learn more about the park.
If it's golf you like, try your luck on the renowned links
of the Banff Springs Golf Course. Designed by master golf architect Stanley
Thompson in 1928, the original 18 holes make the most of the natural landscape.
In 1989, nine holes were added, resulting in 27 holes of championship layout.
Things don't slow down when the snow starts to fall. You
can take ice walks, go dog sledling, ice-fishing or skating. Of course, some
of the best skiing in the world is just minutes away at Lake Louise, Sunshine,
and Norquay. And don't forget to take an old-fashioned sleigh ride through
Banff's winter wonderland.
