Balsams Grand Resort Hotel

The BALSAMS Grand Resort Hotel in Dixville Notch, N.H. has been named one of The Worlds Top Tennis Resorts for 2003 by tennis players around the world who frequent resorts where tennis is a featured activity.  Reported by Tennis Resorts on Line, The BALSAMS was considered to be a world leader in fifteen different categories considered by tennis playing raters. Among the considerations were: overall value; the tennis experience to include teaching staff, quality of facilities, tournaments, matches and round robins;  lodging; cuisine; children's programs and activities for non-tennis playing companions.

The BALSAMS offers guests great tennis on traditional New England red clay courts and on all-weather Plexicushion surfaces as well. There is a full-service proshop, well equipped for racket repairs and well stocked with clothing and equipment. Director of Tennis, Bob  Greene, USPTA, will be assisted this season by Teaching Professional, Stephen Sundra and Assistant Professional, Travis Tillman. Stephen has taught in Sun Valley, Idaho, Florida, Michigan, and Ohio. He played varsity tennis at Cleveland State College and has taught several nationally ranked players. Stephen is very excited to be in New Hampshire. Travis is an MVP with the Bellhaven College Tennis Team. He is a fine scholar and is one of the fastest moving and most exciting players to watch on the tennis court.

Guest rooms at The BALSAMS are spacious and open, light and airy, with interesting architectural detail. Unlike a modern hotel, all rooms are not alike. Each has its own character. Ruffled, sheer curtains at the windows contribute to year-round exposure to natural light. Floral wallpapers and white trim complete the traditional look.

Even the smallest of rooms has a welcoming and open feel. All rooms have generous closet space. Bathrooms have been updated, yet the large tubs, white tile and white wrought iron accessories complete the overall feeling of a New England country inn.

The decor includes pictures from the Hotel's past, as well as, the thoughts and reflections from guests of an earlier era.

Most accommodations are located in the Dixville House and the Hampshire House. The Dixville House is the original Victorian clapboard structure. Most rooms in this section are quite pleasant in size and decor. Some rooms on the north side are less desirable for view and quietude. Most rooms, however, offer views of grounds and gardens, the lakefront and the encompassing mountains of Dixville Notch. The Dixville House rooms are accessible by elevator from the Main Lobby. There are several rooms on the top floor which require walking up one flight of stairs. The Hampshire House is the Rhenish style addition, affectionately referred to as the "new wing." Built in 1917, all rooms in this section are serviced by elevators. Most rooms are interconnected with adjoining accommodations. They feature cedar-lined closets, full-length mirrors and pleasant views of the magnificent mountain walls of Dixville Notch.
